Advertising telehealth on Google Ads: 2026 Prescription drug services certification
Certification & authorization
Two-step: (1) third-party accreditation - LegitScript (NABP in some cases); (2) apply for Google’s certification at the child-account level. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use a separate certification track. Don’t conflate the two.
What’s prohibited
- Offering Rx drugs without a prescription (egregious violation)
- Opioid promotion (narrow exceptions only)
- Speculative or experimental treatment promotion
- Misrepresenting licensure
- Geo-targeting non-permitted countries
Disclaimers & landing-page requirements
Top reasons ads get rejected
- Rx services without LegitScript + Google certification
- Any “buy without prescription” implication
- Geo-targeting non-permitted countries
- Naming/keyword-targeting an Rx without certification
- Opioid/controlled-substance promotion or licensing misrepresentation
What enforcement actually looks like
Two distinct enforcement modes apply. The quiet one is certification lapse: if LegitScript accreditation expires, the Google certification tied to it stops being valid and ads simply stop serving at the child-account level until it is renewed - no new violation required. The loud one is the no-prescription path: a review that finds any way to obtain an Rx on your site without a licensed consult is treated as an egregious violation, and egregious violations skip the warning sequence and go straight to account suspension.
